Turner Classic Movies is thrilled to announce the recipient of the 3rd annual Robert Osborne Award, an award that acknowledges an individual who has worked to maintain the preservation and legacy of classic film. This year’s award will be presented to the cherished film critic, author and historian Leonard Maltin. The award will be presented during a nitrate screening of the John Barrymore vehicle COUNSELLOR AT LAW (1933), provided by the UCLA Film and Television Archive.
Maltin’s career promoting film history has spanned decades and mediums from books, to television series and segments, to podcasts. He is perhaps best known for his widely-used film reference books, Leonard Maltin’s Movie Guide and its companion volume TCM Presents Leonard Maltin’s Classic Movie Guide, as well as his stint as a movie reviewer for Entertainment Tonight. Maltin has written dozens of books, and he is a voting member of the National Film Registry and sits on the board of directions for the National Film Preservation Foundation.
His devotion for preserving the legacy of film has earned him distinctive recognition, including awards from Los Angeles Film Critics Association, American Society of Cinematographers, the Telluride Film Festival, George Eastman House, Anthology Film Archives and San Diego’s Comic-Con International.
