Raquel Román, Program Director of the Guadalupe Homeless Project at Proyecto Pastoral Dolores Mission said, “Before the current health crisis, our shelter was open 14 hours a day everyday serving two meals daily. Now, with the current state of the world, we are open 24 hours a day seven days a week serving three meals daily. We are very grateful to Casa Fina Restaurant & Cantina for reaching out and partnering with us to help homeless men and women dwelling within our shelter. Acts of human kindness like this are what we need most, not just now, but at all times, good and bad.”

About Guadalupe Homeless Project at Proyecto Pastoral at Delores Mission:
Proyecto Pastoral was founded in 1986 by community residents, in partnership with the California Province of Jesuits. Responding to critical needs in the community, the founding women organized and created many initiatives, among them, the Guadalupe Homeless Project (GHP), which provides breakfast, dinner and nightly shelter to 45 men and 15 senior-aged women. The men’s shelter is located at Dolores Mission Church and has been operating since 1988. The women’s shelter opened in 2015 to respond to the crisis in increase of women facing homelessness. Currently, 36% of program residents who exit the program transition into permanent housing. An average of 1,250 volunteers assisted the shelter within the last year by sponsoring and serving meals or coordinating workshops. GHP also manages Proyecto Pastoral’s Distribution Center, which provides low-cost, gently-used clothing to local residents and free clothing to shelter residents. Other initiatives at Proyecto Pastoral include: IMPACTO youth programs, a childcare co-op that is now their Early Learning Centers, leadership development and community organizing work and Comunidad en Movimiento/Community in Action.
