Birmingham, AL (The Hollywood Times) 03/20/2020 – “If all you pay attention to is catastrophe, then soon you will begin to see monsters everywhere you look.”

D. Randall Blythe, front man for American heavy metal band, Lamb Of God, doesn’t mince words regarding the new health crisis in the form of the COVID-19/Coronavirus pandemic.

“Memento Mori,” the newest single from Lamb Of God’s upcoming self titled tenth studio album tackles just how preoccupied people have become with the avarice of modern technology, and how it impedes our capacity to really see what is right in front of us.

Blythe says: “I wrote ‘Memento Mori’ as a reminder to myself to not be consumed by the omnipresent electronic harbingers of doom that surround us – cell phones, computers and television screens. While these devices can be useful tools, and it is important to stay informed, it is equally important to remain engaged with the real, physical world we live in, not just digitally filtered representations of reality.”

In a time where the mainstream media (in true to form fashion) chooses to dramatize and point fingers, Blythe also wants to address how much the media has governed the world’s perception by literally finding any instance to scare the public into a terror stricken frenzy. Misinformation equals trepidation, and by allowing yourself to fall victim to the ruse put in place by various news and media outlets, you’re robbing yourself of invaluable sanity and precious time that could be spent enjoying every moment that you’re alive in the present.

“It is indeed a scary time,” Blythe says. “But in this hyper-connected age with its 24/7 never-ending news cycle of atrocity, outrage and lurid click-bait headlines, it is all too easy to lose sight of the fact that life is still carrying on, and good things do in fact still happen.”

While the COVID-19 pandemic is a very real threat, common sense is also a much needed commodity (as opposed to hoarding toilet paper by the bulk) in these stressful beginnings of 2020.

My advice? Try and apply the aforementioned common sense to your everyday way of life by way of practicing adequate hygiene, following the guidelines provided by your local state and health officials, and by finding better ways to spend your time rather than allowing the construct of media based fear to surpass your God given discernment.

The new self titled Lamb Of God album will be  available worldwide on May 8th.
