Los Angeles, CA (The Hollywood Times) 5/30/20 – Maggie Szabo is simply a beautiful person all around, isn’t she? Her voice is rich, soulful and filled with a light that you’ll never get from any other singer, so it’s no surprise to learn how quickly she captivated the hearts and souls of global audiences everywhere with her live rendition of “Don’t Give Up,” backed by the world famous Trans Chorus of LA, and garnering well over 13 million+ views on YouTube to date!
Originally from a small community in Ontario, Canada Maggie came to Los Angeles via Nashville, Tennessee after spending her more formative years in music and singing back in Hamilton. During her time here in LA, Maggie began to familiarise herself more with EDM and the PLUR philosophy that drives it. PLUR is an acronym that stands for Peace, Love, Unity and Respect, and which forms the basis of today’s modern “rave” lifestyle.
Maggie also has become more connected to the LGBTQIA+ community and, as an ally, shared with me her part in supporting the cause of LGBTQIA+ equality by using her platform as a voice of positivity, love and inspiration for ALL.
Her inspirational anthem “Don’t Give Up” tells the story of a young Trans girl struggling to accept herself. I asked Maggie to explain more about how the inspiration for it came about and to share anything else she’d like about making the video.
“I knew I wanted there to be a choir,” she said, “but where was I going to get a lot of people altogether to sing in one place?”
Of course, this is LOS ANGELES, so naturally, there’s this phenomenal group of singers right here and it happens to be.. composed of all-Trans folks (see what I did there 🤪)! How serendipitous! Maggie reached out to them and the rest fell into place.
The song is absolutely beautiful and the music video for it is equally moving. This is HUGE for Trans visibility, and it hasn’t gone unnoticed. Maggie’s heart and soul are genuinely united in love with the LGBTQIA+ community and it shows through her continued efforts to lift us all up through her music, to give us space to let the beauty in our voices to be heard and loved back, as much we give love to a world that so often rejects and demonizes us.
Maggie is here for us, showing up for us. That’s love. And isn’t that all that life’s about when it comes down to it? So here’s a little love right back to ya, girlie!
You can catch Maggie’s most recent awesome release, “Back Where We Started,” while you’re waiting for her next one to drop 6/12. And while you’re at it, you should watch that “Don’t Give Up” video I mentioned. Hell, watch it twice. Treat yourself. You’ll be glad you did!
