How did you start your journey?

My journey started from Zaxo in Kurdistan, ever since I was little, I have always loved clothes, jewelry, and shoes. I enjoyed expressing myself through what I wore. Although being the youngest sister in my family, I was really looked up to when it came to fashion by my older sisters. I started my fashion design journey with an apprenticeship and completed a master tailor degree within 5 years. I have been working in the industry for 8 years and have been running my own business called à la mode for 6 years in Berlin, Germany. Today, I create my own collections, offer my services to various designers from Berlin for the completion of their collections for the Berlin Fashion Week and also teach sewing classes 1-2 days a week. My customers range from a normal audience to designers and VIPs. I have also designed clothing for one of the judges of Germany’s Next Top Model by Heidi Klum and also the international pop singer ILIRA.

Tell us about the Kurdish solo segment “The hidden beauty of Kurdistan” represented by Zarya Azadi at the House of iKons.

“The hidden beauty of Kurdistan” hosted by Zarya Azadi, is an opportunity for Kurdish designers to showcase their talent and represent Kurdistan. I am really glad that Zarya Azadi will be hosting the show as she is a great role model for Kurdish girls. This show is significant to me because there is very little representation of Kurds not only in the fashion design industry but in social media and television as well. Whenever we are talked about, it’s always about war and terror. I am grateful for this opportunity to be part of the show and to write history.

Tell us about the upcoming London Fashion Week and the House of iKons. Why is this show so important to you?

As a designer, I always wanted to be part of the London Fashion Week to showcase my collection. The House of iKons is definitely a great platform for emerging designers to step up their game. I am very excited and honored to be part of the Kurdish solo segment “The hidden beauty of Kurdistan” during the London Fashion Week at the House of iKons fashion show because I can fulfill my dearest wishes with it, which is combined with just one big event. I showcase my newest collection at an international fashion event in London representing my country highlighting our art and culture. It is like a dream come true.

What do you enjoy the most about being a designer?

Fashion design is a form of art for me and allows me to express myself. I can create outfits that are one of a kind, making the person wearing the outfit feel special and in return feel a great sense of achievement when seeing clients react positively to what I have created.

Describe your designs in a sentence.

If I could describe my designs in a sentence it would be, Kurdish clothes with modern elements.
