Los Angeles, CA – St. Vincent Meals on Wheels (SVMOW), the largest, privately funded senior nutrition program in the country, will return to in-person fundraising with “Hollywood Under the Stars”, on the Paramount Studios lot on Saturday, June 25. The event gets underway at 6:30 pm, with a VIP reception sponsored by longtime SVMOW volunteers and supporters Nancy Babka and Carla Garrett commencing in the Paramount Theatre at 5:30 pm.
After a two-year hiatus imposed by the pandemic, the organization will partner with nearly a dozen top Angeleno chefs and patissieres to present a gourmet, chef-curated evening of tastings, complemented by a live, 10-piece band presented by DeBois Entertainment for dancing under the night sky.
Actor Doug Savant (Melrose Place; Desperate Housewives) and L.A.’s own Fox 11 anchor-reporter Susan Hirasuna will co-host the event. Special guests include L.A. City Councilmembers Mitch O’Farrell (CD-13) and Nithya Raman (CD-4), both of whom have supported the organization and have constituents who are SVMOW meal clients.
Among the chefs who will be on hand preparing some of their signature savory dishes will be Kevin Meehan of Kali, presenting samples from his Michelin-starred, hyper-seasonal menu of California cuisine; Diana Briscoe, bringing Gracias Madre’s vegan, Mexican delights; and Francesco Zimone and Michele Rubini, offering L’Antica Pizzeria da Michele’s Neapolitan-style pies.
Rounding out the gustatory line-up will be select desserts such as Etoile Filante Patisserie’s one-of-a-kind macaroons and Laderach’s hand-crafted chocolates. “At Läderach Chocolatier Suisse, we’re dedicated to creating sweet moments of joy in everyday life by delivering the best premium fresh chocolate possible,” said Nathanael Hausmann, president, Läderach North America. “That’s why we’re proud to be participating in the upcoming ‘Hollywood Under the Stars’ event to celebrate this passion and benefit the extraordinary efforts of St. Vincent Meals on Wheels to help alleviate food insecurity in the Los Angeles community.”
Hosted by award-winning actor Martin Sheen, a special video presentation will pay tribute to SVMOW’s founders, the Daughters of Charity, whose late Sister Alice Marie Quinn founded the organization on July 7, 1977, thus marking 45 years of service to the community later this summer. The “Hollywood Under the Stars” program will officially launch the Thrive @ 45 year-long fundraising initiative.
“We are so excited to welcome folks back for our first post-pandemic, in-person fundraising event,” noted SVMOW Executive Director Veronica Dover. “As we provided this crucial program without fail over the last two challenging years, the prayers and support from everyone who loves this program, and the seniors that we serve, continually provided us with endurance and strength,” she added.
Being able now to celebrate together while raising funds to continue to serve the hundreds more homebound seniors who now need our services is truly a blessing.
Generous corporate and community sponsors include Delta Dental, Oak Tree Capital, Nelly Llanos-Kilroy, Rick Llanos and Family, Albertson’s, Toyota, the Daughters of Charity, The Foundation Works and US Bank.
