The Votes Are In: Celebrate the 2023 Award-Winners

Our jurors and audiences have voted, and we’re thrilled to announce the award-winners of this year’s Fest! Congratulations to Joe Brewster and Michèle Stephenson (Going to Mars: The Nikki Giovanni Project) who were awarded the U.S. Grand Jury Prize: Dramatic; Luke Lorentzen (A Still Small Voice) who was presented with the Directing Award: U.S. Documentary; Sing J. Lee (The Accidental Getaway Driver) who received the Directing Award: U.S. Dramatic; and Anna Hints (Smoke Sauna Sisterhood), who was presented with the Directing Award: World Cinema Documentary. Voters also honored Radical as the Festival Favorite, the cast of Theater Camp with the U.S. Dramatic Special Jury Award: Ensemble, and others at the annual awards ceremony in Park City. Day 10 Honors 2023 Award Winners, Celebrates Return to Utah and Hybrid Success

“This year’s Festival has been an extraordinary experience,” said Sundance Institute’s CEO Joana Vicente in her opening remarks at yesterday’s awards ceremony. “The artists that comprise the 2023 Sundance Film Festival have demonstrated a sense of urgency and dedication to excellence in independent film. Today’s award winners highlight our programs’ most impressive achievements in the current moment of cinematic arts.”

Audiences and artists gathered at The Ray Theater in Park City, Utah, yesterday as the 2023 Festival winners were announced. The spirit in the theater was of collective joy and excitement for everything that this year’s cohort has accomplished. Swells of applause, shouts, and tears erupted every time a winner was announced.
