It’s Super Cool to have a Edwards Regal IMAX theatre in your neighboring town. This movie is intended to watch in an IMAX size and sound theater.  My son, his wife and his three sons, 20, 13 and 4 could not wait to get into our seats with our popcorn, soda and candy to watch The Super Mario Bros. Movie we have been waiting to see on the eve of opening night of Friday, February 7th.

Watch the official trailer here:

I remember getting the first Super Mario Bros. game back in October 1985 when my first son was only 4 months old and I just happen to be on maternity leave and was able to get the game and was hooked on the visual of the game as well as the sounds that came out from the TV via my Nintendo. My two grew up loving the game and now both of them who are 37 and 32 still play the game on their Nintendo Switch.  It’s really neat to see my 4 year old grandson learning the game that his dad is loving to show him.  My 13 year old grandson loves the game and Donkey Kong is his favorite character.

Here is a photo of my Grandsons Drew and Max during a photo-op in the theater lobby and a couple of photos I took of the family in the theater.

The adventure and comedy movie is 1 hour and 32 minutes and it didn’t seem long enough.  The amazing animation that came to life on that huge IMAX screen was just outstanding.  The vibrant colors of Mario and Luigi and the voices of Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy) as Mario and Charlie Day (Horrible Bosses) as Luigi brought them to life in this animated movie. Here are some photos taken in the IMAX theater.

The casting was so well thought out with Anya Taylor-Joy (The Queen’s Gambit) as Princess Peach, Jack Black (School of Rock) as Bowser, Kevin Michael Richardson (The Cleveland Show) as Kameck, Charles Martinet (Mario and Luigi from Super Mario video game) as Mario’s Dad, Jessica DiCicco (Flame Princess) as Mario’s Mom, Keegan-Michael Key (Key & Peele) aka Toad, Eric Bauza (Ren & Stimpy) as Toad General, Fred Armisen (Wednesday) as Cranky Kong and Seth Rogen (The Fabelman) as Donkey Kong.   They all brought their characters to life for us all to enjoy in this animated movie.

The storyline starts with brother Mario and Luigi having a spaghetti dinner with their family and the spaghetti looked really good, what animation brings us!  The red and green outfits they wear take you right back to the video game.  A plumbing business the brothers are starting up in the city of Brooklyn.  Hats off to the animation team with bringing the game into this animated movie, outstanding work.  The sounds and game pieces used throughout the movie kept us all entertained and it only got better with the brothers finding themselves traveling the streets of Brooklyn with obstacles to jump, dodge, climb and find a find something that spikes their interest.  A great scene was the battle between Donkey Kong and Mario.  The story goes to the world of Bowser who has a plan for Princess Peach.  We all really loved the Mario kart race scene with the colorful rainbow track and those amazing looking karts.  SUPER!

This movie was made for Super Mario fans and it worth seeing couple of times, total rush and even a thrill ride.
