It may not be Halloween yet but, the year round desire to be spooked is thriving in a market where escape rooms, and haunting simulations are at an all time rise.  The infamous Lizzie Borden House in Fall River Massachusetts is officially on the roster of tours through US Ghost Adventures on both the live and virtual platform and I couldn’t wait to share this eerie legacy with our readers!  I grew up only one town over from this mysterious suburb, and spent much of my devious teenage years coordinating one too many inadvertent theatric tours with the other kids in my neighborhood to sneak around the haunted forbidden property. Who knew it would become one of the most visited Bed and Breakfasts in the country?!

The restored dining room

In 2021, the Lizzie Borden House underwent significant restoration projects that protect the house and enhance the guest experience keeping true to the preservation of American history and maintaining the inquisitive speculation that it may be the most haunted house in all of the United States.

Even if you’re not from New England I’m sure you’ve heard the morbid famous riddle of this presumed murderess’ deed emanate through your childhood.  “Lizzie Borden took an ax, she gave her mother 40 wacks when she saw what she had done, she gave her father 41.”

In reality the violent scene totaled 41 entrance wounds to both of her parents and the ax in question was rumored to be found over 100 years later in the restoration of this home, but the inaccurate slogan surely keep people drawn to this story.  You may even stumble upon the weapon preserved in a display case at the frequented lodging as many patron’s testimonials declare.

If you’re not in New England and unable to visit this the home where the infamous double murders took place, don’t worry you don’t have to miss out!  In light of the COVID-19 US Ghost Adventures decided to feature live video ghost tours through the streets of 20 cities. Zaal loved the idea of allowing everyone anywhere to take a ghost tour without traveling, and decided to make this a normal part of their offering.

This virtual tour is not to be missed. Zaal comments on the restoration and what it meant to him to bring this real estate on board.

Books that belonged to Lizzie

“To preserve the property’s history, I transcribed more than 30 years’ worth of guest accounts who shared their experiences and used the accounts to create a virtual ‘Lizzie Library,’ and also added a recording area and books for guests to continue to record their experiences with hauntings,” said Zaal. “In addition, new props were staged in the murder scenes to represent the true crime scene photos with more accuracy, and I set up an antique camera used to take the infamous crime scene photos. For the museum display, new Victorian furniture was staged and display pieces were installed to protect and display artifacts in the museum including the dress from the 1975 movie.”
