Ibn Snell, Mistofeelees, ‘Cats’ National Tour

Thousand Oaks, CA (The Hollywood Times) 5/5/23 – Ibn Snell is one lucky cat. Why? The graduate of a prestigious Philadelphia performing arts high school is on the road with the national “Cats” tour.  With the American Theatre Guild company, he will be playing feline Mistoffeelees in Thousand Oaks, at the Fred Kavli Theatre, Bank of America Performing Arts Center, May 11-14.

Talking on the phone from Texas, Ibn explained he comes from a dance background and said “For ‘Misto,’ I had to learn to sing and for improv class, work involved becoming a non-human figure.” Auditioning in New York, this triple threat was cast in the role he calls a “great fit.”

Ibn also admitted that when he first heard about the show, it “seemed so silly,” Rehearsals literally involved performers crawling around on the floor on their hands and knees….

My perspective:  More than difficult…a friend of mine in Sydney in a “Cats” production said such posturing “did in my back and knees.”

Since its debut in Modesto, Calif., Ibn has been with the show and is already anticipating he’ll be “very sad” when the tour ends in Hawaii. “I will really miss it and my classmates.”

Fortunately, he loves teaching dance including Jazz and Pointe.

The movie version of “Cats” we both agreed was “cool,” despite negative critical reviews.
