Los Angeles, CA (The Hollywood Times) 6/5/23– I recently had the pleasure of watching the Lifetime documentary “TLC Forever,” which traced the trajectory of one of the most iconic girl groups of the 1990s. The documentary was a poignant reminder of the incredible talent, ambition, and perseverance of Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins, Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas.

It took us back to the early days of TLC when the three young women from Atlanta initially formed the group that would go on to become a global sensation. We saw how their one-of-a-kind sound, style, and attitude captured the hearts and minds of fans around the world and how they quickly became one of the most successful groups of their era.

However, the documentary didn’t shy away from the challenges and struggles that the group faced over the years. We witnessed how they had to fight against racism, sexism, and industry politics to earn the recognition and respect they deserved. We saw how personal tragedies, such as Left Eye’s untimely death and T-Boz’s battle with her health, rocked the group and threatened to tear them apart. Despite all the obstacles they faced, TLC remained a powerful force in the music industry and a symbol of female empowerment and resilience.

The two-hour special concluded with a touching tribute to Left Eye and a reminder of the enduring legacy of TLC. Overall, “TLC Forever” was a moving and insightful documentary that shed light on the remarkable journey of one of the most iconic groups in music history. In addition, it served as a reminder of the power of music to bring people together and inspire change and as a testament to the unwavering spirit of T-Boz, Left Eye, and Chilli.
